Plant immunity: Good fences make good neighbors?

چکیده
Plant immunity is modulated by several abiotic factors, and microbiome has emerged as a major biotic driver of plant resistance. Recently, few studies showed that plants also modify resistance to pests pathogens in their neighborhood. Several types neighborhood could be identified depending on the biological processes at play: intraspecific interspecific competition, kin stranger recognition, plant-soil feedbacks, danger signaling. This review highlights molecules exchanged aboveground belowground between can modulate immunity, either constitutively or after damage attack. An intriguing relationship allelopathy been evidenced should merit further investigation. Interestingly, most reported cases modulation neighbors are positive, opening new perspectives for understanding natural communities well design more diverse cultivated systems.

Good Fences Make Good Neighbors: a Longitudinal Analysis of an Industry Self-regulatory Institution
We extend theories of self-regulation of physical commons to analyze self-regulation of intangible commons in modern industry. We posit that when the action of one firm can cause “spillover” harm to others, firms share a type of commons. We theorize that the need to protect this commons can motivate the formation of a self-regulatory institution. Using data from the U.S. chemical industry, we f...
متن کاملGood fences make good neighbors : cardiovascular science and medicine at the end of the millenium.
Cardiovascular science and medicine have been friendly “neighbors” for decades. It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood—supportive neighborhood organizations (NHLBI) provided balanced funding of clinical and basic science projects, cardiology fellows were schooled in both clinical and scientific camps, and intimate family reunions (AHA) were designed to bring together citizens from both side...
متن کاملGood Fences Make Good Neighbors: Endogenous Property Rights in a Game of Conflict∗
This paper derives the conditions under which property rights can arise in an anarchy equilibrium. The creation of property rights requires that players devote part of their endowment to the public good. In the Nash equilibrium, no player contributes to the provision of property rights protection. Therefore, players are left with two alternatives. A king who provides property rights protection ...
متن کاملGood Fences Make Good Neighbors: Evidence on the Effects of Property Rights
This paper uses the introduction of barbed wire fences to the American Midwest in the late 19th century to estimate the effects of property rights on farmers’ production decisions. Farmers were both formally and informally required to build fences to secure exclusive land-use rights, yet preferred wooden fences had been prohibitively expensive in areas with little woodland. The introduction and...
متن کاملDevelopment of the renal glomerulus: good neighbors and good fences.
The glomerulus of the mammalian kidney is an intricate structure that contains an unusual filtration barrier that retains higher molecular weight proteins and blood cells in the circulation. Recent studies have changed our conception of the glomerulus from a relatively static structure to a dynamic one, whose integrity depends on signaling between the three major cell lineages: podocytes, endot...
